Find People You Like
You’ll work best with people you like
You almost can’t work well with people you don’t like. Lennon and McCartney had a very close bond, and that’s part of the reason they worked so well together. They were having fun writing songs, and performing, and they also had a friendly competition going on, and were constantly trying to outdo each other.
You should be able to just hang out with them
You should be able to just hang out with your bandmates outside of playing music. It may happen that the only thing you have in common is music, but that’s fine, because playing music with someone forms an extremely strong bond. Hang out, and tell funny stories, or talk about girls you think are hot that go to your school.
Steps to take:
- Invite your bandmates over on days where there is no practice
- Have them sleepover at your house
- Take some time to get to know about their interests
- Hang out with them during lunch at school
Either before you make a commitment to have the person in your band, or once you’re already started, but you’re not sure if they’re the best fit, take some time to hang out with them. Tell some jokes, drink some soda, jump in the pool, anything, just make sure that they’re a good friend. Not only will having a person in your band that you like make your band work together better, it will also make it more fun. The friendships you make with the guys/girls in your band are easily some of the strongest that you’ll make in your life.
In summary:
- Hang out with the people in your band
- Make an effort to get to have get togethers with your whole band, not just one person
- The stronger the friendship with your bandmates you have, the better your band will be
- Don’t be afraid to invite your bandmates to spend the night
