Why is there even an article about girlfriends?
The answer is simple: because girlfriends can get in the way of bands. If you’ve ever seen the movie This Is Spinal Tap, you’ll understand. In a lot of cases, girlfriends are the thing that mess up bands. Look at The Beatles, Yoko Ono was said to break up The Beatles because John was bringing her to all their practices, and he was listening to all her advice. And it’s not just them, what about The Sex Pistols? Sid Vicious was driven off his rocker after embarking in a drug frenzy with his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
Why don’t girlfriends and rock music mix?
Girlfriends can definitely mix with rock music. The problem is when the band member becomes obsessed with being with the girlfriend, that a problem starts. Love is a crazy thing, and it can easily make you choose a girlfriend over your close friends. Also if your girlfriend is controlling, she’ll start to voice her opinion on the subject of your music. When that starts happening, you start making decisions based on what your girlfriend thinks. Rock bands should be run by the people in the band, with the exception of the manager. There shouldn’t be some other person who is trying to add her opinion to a mix that doesn’t need it.
Steps to take:
- If you have a girlfriend, tell your friends to keep an eye on you and tell you if you’re being controlled
- Don’t let them play you, be nice and respectful, but don’t do every single little crazy thing for them just because they say so
- Or avoid it all by not having a girlfriend
- Be ready to have a jealous girlfriend if your band is getting attention, because you will get the attention of A LOT of girls
