Don’t Fit In

“But I want to fit in!”

Not if you want to get ahead in the music scene. Bands that just fit it will never get anywhere. They will just float around, and play some shows, but never stick out as awesome, or terrible, they’re just there. There are things that can set your band indefinitely apart, luckily for you. You can read the section Be Known For Something and get tips from that, or you can read on and hear some other ways.

Other ways to not fit in

There are two ends to this spectrum of not fitting in. One end of the spectrum is to be really mean, and scary, while the other side of the spectrum includes being really nice, and having really happy shows. But the middle grounds can be anything from wearing no shirts to gigs, to being known to show up JUST before set up. You just don’t want to be another middle of the road band. And if you do, then you shouldn’t be reading this, because you’re content with how your band is already.

Steps to Take:

  • Step 1: Figure out what you can do to not fit in
  • Step 2: Continue to do that one thing until you’re known for it
  • Step 3: Don’t fit in
This whole idea of not fitting in, is the brother/sister of the idea of being known for something. But being known for something, and not fitting in differ in one way, and that way is that not fitting in doesn’t even have to be doing something crazy, you can just not fit in for playing different music, or the most popular way: playing really good music.

In summary:

  • Make an effort not to be a middle of the road band. You’ll get noticed more
  • Not fitting in will draw people back to your shows, and back to your social networking sites
  • Don’t fit in. It will help. Trust me
