Picking A Good Cover

Don’t like any of the crowd pleasers?

Well luckily for you, there are more crowd pleasers than the ones I mentioned, and the songs you play, don’t even need to be crowd pleasers, they can just be covers. But there are some good rules to follow when you decide to pick a song that isn’t a well known, catchy song. However, even though these might not be your favorite songs, they work REALLY well with crowds.

How to know if a song is cover worthy

Well really any song you enjoy listening to is cover worthy. But there are some songs that a crowd will like to hear much more than others. These are songs that have catchy melodies, and don’t just bombard the crowd with distorted guitars, and cymbal-happy drum parts. As I’ve said, the point of a cover is to learn the parts, but it should also give the crowd a song they know. They don’t want songs that they know that are bad, they want songs they know that are good.

Steps to Take:

  • Find a good list of crowd-appropriate songs
  • Choose a few that would work better then the other ones
  • Try to learn the songs that you really like, but still sound good to a crowd

In the end, don’t pick a song if you don’t like the band, or how it sounds, but try to compromise, and pick a song that you enjoy to listen to, and would also please a crowd to hear. Some kinds of songs that crowds love to hear are songs they can dance to, songs that have great melodies, and any song that doesn’t assault their eardrums

In summary:

  • Covering songs should be fun for you and the audience
  • Try picking songs that don’t assault people
  • Well known songs/songs people can dance to, go over best
