Finding A Place to Record
I’m ready to record, the question is: “where?”
Finding a place to record might be a little difficult, or very easy, depending on where you live. If you live in a place where there’s only one place to record, then the choice is easy. But if you live somewhere where there are lots of choices, and you don’t know which place you should go to, here are some tips on how to figure out which place would be best for your band to record at.
Listen to previous recordings
Listening to recordings that the studio has already done is a great way to get a feel for how the studio does it’s recordings. How a studio looks has nothing to do with how good it ultimately sounds. A studio could have thousands of dollars worth of gear, but maybe the engineer is a newbie, whereas another studio only has five microphones, but the engineer is a pro. Listen to the recordings they’ve already done, and get a feel for them.
Steps to Take:
- Scope out the possible places you can record
- Listen to the recordings they’ve already done
- Check their availability
Recordings are a huge part of a bands overall sound, and a good recording, which really accentuates the songs, and playing of the band are really crucial for getting recognition. Also experienced musicians will be able to hear the parts that you just attuned, or just used boloney recordings tricks to do. So choose wisely, and choose a studio that specializes in music you play. Don’t bring your rock band to record at a studio that does techno music, that just won’t work out well.
In summary:
- Listen to the recordings the place has done already.
- Find a place that you like the sound of their recordings
- Make sure you know the place your going to, and how they like to record things
