What to Do With Recordings

I have recordings… now what?

Well now comes the fun part, (although doing the recordings are also extremely fun) now it’s time to start distributing the recordings. The whole point of recordings, is to have some sound track, that can basically show off what your band can do, and how good your songs are. Now it’s time to show off how good your band is.

Where to distribute

Luckily, we live in an era of technology, so something to start with right away, are social networks, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc. If you recorded with a record label, they will take initiative to start burning CDs, and selling them, but if you’re like most of us, you don’t have a big record label behind you. In this case, you can buy CDs, and CD cases in bulk for pretty cheap online. Throw on a little photoshop/paint picture with your band name on it, and you’re done. These can be sold, or even given away to distribute your music.

Steps to Take:

  • Start by putting your songs on music sharing places for free
  • Learn about buying CDs/cases to start selling your music
  • Put your songs on your iPod, and share them with friends at school

Having recordings of your band with you at all times comes really in handy. Maybe one day you find a guy who could get you a cool gig, or maybe just your friends want to hear it. But who knows, maybe you’ll be super lucky, and meet with a record label executive, and he’ll want to hear some of your bands material. It’s just always good to have some of your music, you’ll probably want to listen to it as well!

In summary:

  • Putting your music up on social networking sties will help
  • You can start selling your music, if you buy CDs, and CD cases
  • Carry around your music to show friends, and possible music connections.
